Tire Depth, Dread Wear...

Step 1: Preparing for the Job
The first step in changing a tire is to prepare for the job. The tire professional will start by parking the vehicle on a level surface, away from traffic. The engine should be turned off, and the emergency brake engaged. The professional will also ensure that the spare tire, lug wrench, and jack are in good condition and easily accessible.

Step 2: Loosening the Lug Nuts
The next step is to loosen the lug nuts that hold the tire in place. This is done using a lug wrench. The tire professional will place the wrench on the lug nut and turn it counterclockwise until it is loose. It is essential to remember that the lug nuts should only be loosened, not removed at this stage.

Step 3: Raising the Vehicle
The tire professional will now use the jack to raise the vehicle off the ground. The jack will be placed at the recommended jacking points specified in the vehicle owner’s manual. It is essential to ensure that the jack is stable and secure before raising the vehicle. Once the vehicle is raised, the lug nuts can be removed.

Step 4: Removing the Tire
With the lug nuts removed, the tire can now be taken off. The tire professional will grasp the tire by the tread and pull it towards themselves until it comes off the wheel hub. The tire will then be placed on its side, with the wheel facing up.
Step 5: Mounting the New Tire
The new tire will be mounted on the wheel hub by lining up the holes on the wheel with the studs on the hub. The tire professional will then push the tire onto the hub until it is snugly in place. The lug nuts can now be threaded by hand and tightened using the lug wrench in a criss-cross pattern to ensure that the wheel is properly seated.

Step 6: Lowering the Vehicle
With the new tire securely in place, the tire professional can now lower the vehicle using the jack. Once the vehicle is back on the ground, the lug nuts should be tightened again in the same criss-cross pattern.

Step 7: Checking the Tire Pressure
The tire professional will now check the tire pressure using a tire gauge to ensure that it matches the recommended pressure for the vehicle. If the pressure is too low, it can be inflated using an air compressor.

Step 8: Cleaning Up
The final step is to clean up. The tire professional will gather up the old tire and any tools that were used and stow them away in the vehicle. They will also dispose of the old tire properly, according to local regulations.
