The Basic Steps While Performing A Oil Chnage

Changing the oil in your vehicle is an essential maintenance task that will help keep your vehicle running smoothly. Here’s a step-by-step guide to changing the oil in most vehicles.

Materials Needed

  • Oil filter wrench
  • Oil drain pan
  • New oil filter
  • Oil (amount will depend on the engine size, consult your owner’s manual)
  • Funnel
  • Lug wrench
  • Jack stands or ramps

Here are the basic Steps

Step 1: Prepare the vehicle
Park your 4Runner on level ground, engage the emergency brake, and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. If you have access to ramps or jack stands, use them to raise the front of the vehicle off the ground.

Step 2: Locate the oil pan
Locate the oil pan underneath the vehicle, on the bottom of the engine. It’s a metal pan that is shaped like a shallow tray and has a drain plug in the center.

Step 3: Place the drain pan
Place the oil drain pan underneath the oil pan, directly below the drain plug. Make sure the drain pan is big enough to catch all of the oil that will be drained from the engine.

Step 4: Remove the drain plug
Using the lug wrench, loosen and remove the drain plug from the oil pan. The oil will start to drain out, so be prepared with the drain pan to catch it. Allow the oil to drain completely, which can take a few minutes.

Step 5: Replace the drain plug
Once the oil has completely drained, replace the drain plug and tighten it securely with the lug wrench.

Step 6: Change the oil filter
Locate the oil filter, which is usually located on the side of the engine block. Use the oil filter wrench to remove the old oil filter. Be careful not to damage the engine or the oil filter housing while removing the filter. Once the old filter is removed, clean the filter housing thoroughly.

Step 7: Install the new oil filter
Take the new oil filter and lubricate the rubber gasket on the bottom with a small amount of oil. Then, screw the new oil filter into the filter housing by hand, making sure not to over-tighten it.

Step 8: Add new oil
Locate the oil filler cap, which is usually located on top of the engine. Use the funnel to pour in the recommended amount of oil into the engine. Check the oil level with the dipstick and add more oil if necessary.

Step 9: Start the engine
Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. This will help circulate the new oil throughout the engine. Check for any leaks or signs of oil seepage.

Step 10: Check the oil level
With the engine still running, turn it off and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle. Then, check the oil level with the dipstick to make sure it’s at the proper level.

In Conclusion

That’s it! You have successfully changed the oil in your 2001 Toyota 4Runner. Remember to change the oil and oil filter regularly, as recommended by the manufacturer, to keep your vehicle running smoothly.

Note: These steps are general guidelines and may vary slightly for different engine types or models. It’s always a good idea to consult your owner’s manual for specific instructions.
